You heard right! It's been talked about for a long time, and will soon be a reality! As per "The Press-Enterprise" Newspaper's recent articles, soon we will be using two lanes of the planned six lanes of our "new" Re-Aligned Newport Road previously planned to be open by the end of August or early September, but that has obviously not taken place. So when will this new road open? You have to stay tuned with us to find out. You will know as soon as we do!

The re-alignment of Newport Road is part of the 2,100 home Audie Murphy Ranch project. This site is on 1,113 acres between Menifee, Canyon Lake and Quail Valley. The opening of the "new" Newport Road is preceding the housing construction. This means they are only opening up two lanes of the eventually six lane road due to the heavy construction vehicles needing the other lanes for the ongoing construction. It may be a very long time before those four additional lanes open.

The new version of Newport Road will connect Railroad Canyon Road up to just before Walgreens and Murrieta Road and do away with the congested Newport/Goetz intersection. Those of you who commute to the O.C. undertstand this morning and evening congested intersection very well. Let's hope this helps your commute go a little bit quicker.

This re-alignment brings about the closure of a stretch of Goetz Road from Canyon Lake's East Entrance to Railroad Canyon Road. They will be constructing a new bridge to lessen the flooding from Salt Creek. This closure is estimated to last one year.

The current section of Newport Road between Goetz and Berea Rd. will be renamed Normandy Road and will be our road to take to go towards Quail Valley. Unfortunately, those of you who live off of La Ladera will have to back track a little east in order to get to the new stretch of Newport Road that will take you towards Lake Elsinore. But on the bright side, this will cease all of the major traffic at the traffic light at La Ladera and the soon to be "Normandy Road". Remember how long it took to get out of La Ladera when it was just a stop sign? See... when we are patient, good stuff happens! Sometimes in baby steps, but it eventually happens!

Construction of the Audie Murphy homes is set to begin in the next two months. For those of you who aren't familiar with who Audie Murphy is, he was a World War II hero and movie star who once raised quarter horses on that land in Menifee.
